Bitwig Studio 6 Public Beta Now Available to Download

Bitwig has announced the public beta of Bitwig Studio 6 DAW, the next major version of its innovative digital audio workstation. The final release is scheduled for fall 2025, but users with an active upgrade plan can already download and test the beta.

Fresh Look and Workflow Tools

Bitwig Studio 6 DAW Public Beta GUI

The developers have refined the user interface to make it easier to adapt to different production workflows. Editors now include new features such as the Spray Can tool for scattering points across a grid and an Audition tool for quickly previewing expression data.

Bitwig Studio 6 also enhances layered editing for both audio and MIDI loops, allowing producers to manage complex arrangements with greater precision.

Expanded Automation Editing

Automation is a significant focus in Bitwig Studio 6. The update introduces automation clips, which behave like MIDI or audio clips and can be arranged freely on the timeline. Two brand-new automation functions also make their debut:

  • Spread – generates random values for more organic variation.
  • Hold – locks automation to a constant value until the next point.

A new drawing algorithm makes hand-drawn curves cleaner and easier to edit. Combined with the Spray Can tool, this allows producers to create detailed modulation shapes while maintaining smooth workflows quickly.

Clip Aliases for Smarter Arranging

Another standout feature is the introduction of Clip Aliases. Instead of duplicating clips across a track, producers can now create aliases for them. Editing the original clip automatically updates all linked aliases, saving time and keeping projects tidy.

Aliases work with audio, MIDI, and automation clips in both the Clip Launcher and Arranger views. Users can also convert existing duplicate clips into aliases with Merge Duplicate Patterns, or break a link when needed using Make Unique.

Project Key and Scale Integration

Bitwig Studio 6 projects now support keys and scales alongside tempo and time signatures. The piano roll displays the chosen scale, and producers can snap or quantize notes to stay in key. Note that FX devices, such as Arpeggiator, Randomize, and the new Key Filter+, can also follow the project scale for more musical results.

The root note and scale can even be automated or controlled via modulators and Project Remote Controls, opening new creative possibilities for dynamic harmonic changes within a track.
